We are not trying to fix your phone.
The problem was never the device. It is a life that got designed by default, one convenient decision at a time.
Nobody chose this. There was no morning where you decided that most of your one life would be spent looking at a rectangle, reacting to people you will never meet, optimising a version of yourself for an audience that is not in the room.
It arrived the way weather arrives. Each step was reasonable. A phone for the maps. An app because everyone was on it. Notifications because you did not want to miss the important one. A tool that writes the first draft because it is faster than thinking. Every single trade made sense on its own, and the sum of them is a life you would not have picked.
The enemy is not the screen
It is easy to blame the device, because the device is right there. But a phone in a drawer changes nothing about a week with no friction in it, no risk, no craft, nobody you would call at midnight. The screen is the symptom. The condition is a life that stopped being decided on purpose.
You did not fail digital detox. You failed the Monday after it.
This is why the fix is never an app that blocks another app. Willpower is asked to perform at the exact second the reflex fires, which is the one moment it is guaranteed to lose. Conditions beat intentions. Change the room and the behaviour follows without a fight.
What we are actually building
even hand is not a retreat company. Retreats are one thing we run, because forty eight hours with a sealed phone is the fastest way to feel what has been taken. But the point is bigger and slower than a weekend.
- Experiences that only exist in the physical world, where being there is the entire product.
- A room of people who would rather be interesting than optimised, and who show up when they say they will.
- Writing that names what is happening, so the thing stops feeling like a personal failure.
- Eventually places. Houses, spaces, somewhere a different default is simply how it works.
What we are not
Not wellness. Nobody is going to tell you to breathe correctly. Not productivity. We are not here to help you extract more output from the same hours. Not spirituality. There is no belief required and nothing to convert to. Not a digital detox brand, because the word detox implies a cleanse before you go back to exactly the same diet.
The territory is real life. Presence, friendship, making things, moving, discomfort, play. Old words. They only sound radical because of what replaced them.
The trade
Nothing here is designed to bring you back. There is no streak, no feed, no dashboard, no notification engineered to catch you at a weak hour. If the work lands, you need us less over time and you will have a life you are actually inside of.
That is the whole offer. Fewer hours given away. More life in the ones you keep.
